Velocity Credit Union Awards Nine Local Students at 15th Annual Scholarship Ceremony
Velocity Credit Union recently held a reception to present its 15th Annual Velocity Credit Union Scholarship Awards. Nine scholarships were awarded to credit union members; three to high school seniors and six to past winners who are continuing in college. To date, Velocity Credit Union has awarded more that $93,000 in scholarships. The Royal G. Wilson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Carlos Galvan, a graduate of Crockett High School, who plans to attend St. Edward’s University. The Limuel Hunter Scholarship was awarded to Emily Jaso, a graduate of Akins High School, who plans to attend Sam Houston State University. And, Andrew Treckman, a graduate of James Bowie High School who plans to attend Texas A&M, received the Tom Eaton Memorial Scholarship. Six additional students (and past winners) were awarded the Robert Wilder Memorial Scholarships, to assist current college students: Nicolas Arredondo, Kevin Davis, Kasey Ruedas and Jennifer Hewitt, who all attend the University of Texas; Bianco Guerro, Texas Tech University; and Courtney Passow, who will attend Texas A&M this fall. Velocity Credit Union President Debbie Mitchell said, “The Velocity Scholarship Program was created by our board of directors as a way to serve the community, our members, and their families. I’m proud to serve a board that is so invested in giving back to its membership and in helping our young people attain their goals.”
